Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif. Certain scenes I found overly described, others were more fluid and fun, others dark and moody. A thriller that you wanted to listen to until the end. I really recommend this audiobook. As Truman Capote reconstructs the murder and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers, he generates both mesmerizing suspense and astonishing empathy. This book belongs in everyone's home library. The detectives working the case have a pretty good idea about what went down. There is no doubt that the graphic details of this true crime novel were part of that shock. It's also more than that. His book is not a blood and guts horror tale; it's not a socio-pschological tale trying to evince sympathy for the murderers; it's not a who dunnit detective story. The narration is clear and well read. Houses, shops, and entire streets are wiped from the map.
